The Invicta Dynamos, backed by a good travelling support of fans were overcome by EPL Swindon Wildcats on Sunday night.
Invicta were again missing Charlie Phillips, Grant Baxter and new import Joonas Liimatainen, with Dan Terry and new signing Frankie Harvey included in the roster.
Dynamos netminder Chris Douglas was called into action at 2:52 saving well from a one-on-one but had no chance when Swindon defenseman Stevie Whitfield broke from his own defence zone to score on 6:33.
It took Invicta just 36 seconds to reply with the equaliser as Steve Osman found the back of Stevie Lyle’s net on 7:09 following good build-up play from Andy Smith and Juraj Huska.
Anthony Leone broke clear on 09:55 and fired the puck across Lyle’s goal with Steve Osman only a whisker away from prodding home his 2nd goal of the night. Swindon however quickly broke to turn the play up the other end of the ice and score on 10:21 through Jan Kostal to take a 2-1 lead.
Invicta had a couple more shots at Lyle in the first period through Adam McNicoll and Harrison Lillis but Swindon’s Ollie Betteridge increased Swindon’s lead to 3-1 despite calls for high sticks from the Invicta players.
Swindon started the 2nd period defending a penalty after Ollie Betteridge was called for a tripping penalty dead-on 20:00. Despite a man advantage for two minutes, Invicta’s only half chance fell to Frankie Harvey after a bit of a scramble in the Swindon defence zone, but the new forward couldn’t take advantage. Aaron Nell increased the lead to 4-1 on 24:45 following good build-up play by the impressive Glenn Billing and Jonas Hoog.
Invicta managed to see out a Harrison Lillis penalty for slashing on 26:09 before Swindon’s Glenn Billing scored his first of four goals, beating Douglas on 33:16 to take the score to 5-1. Jonas Hoog then made it 6-1 on 36:57 with Swindon then deciding to swap netminders Stevie Lyle and Michael Crisp around.
The third period saw the visitors have early shots from Billy Phillips and Juraj Huska before it was made 7-1 on 45:47 through Billing with a long range shot. Billing completed his hat trick with a tap in on 51:49, and scored the final goal of the night on 58:53 following an assist from Hoog during a power play after Elliot Dewey was penalised for slashing.
