Swindon Town 0-1 Bromley

Bromley picked up their second 1-0 win in a row, with a hard fought victory away to Swindon Town on Easter Monday thanks to a piece of magic from Danny Imray and a man of the match display from goalkeeper Grant Smith.

Andy Woodman made four changes to his starting line up, fielding a 5-3-2 formation, starting Nicke Kabamba up front with Michael Cheek.

The early exchanges saw headers from corners go wide at either end from Harry Smith and Omar Sowunmi. Swindon striker Glatzel then had an effort saved by Grant Smith and he was then denied a penalty by an offside flag after getting behind Idris Odutayo.

Harry Smith headed the next Swindon chance over, before the game was delayed after Ravens custodian Smith had been injured in a challenge for a high ball with Tshimanga.

After play got going again Tshimanga was denied by Smith at close range and Town pressed from there with a series of corners. Bromley created a few chances as the half went on, Imray had a shot saved by Ripley at his near post and Sowunmi headed over at a corner.

Late in the half though, it was The Robins who were handed a golden opportunity to grab the lead when Adam Mayor was judged to have brought down Tshimanga after he had played a one two with Smith on the edge of the area and initiated contact with the left wing back.

Tshimanga stepped up to take the penalty, but Smith got down to his right and saved the spot kick to keep it scoreless at the break.

The second half saw Bromley start well, Imray had an effort from a Cameron Congreve cross saved by Ripley and from the corner Sowunmi headed against the bar with Cheek having a shot from the rebound blocked.

Imray was again denied by Ripley with a brave save at his feet, before Ian Holloway made two changes to his side and they started to come back into things. With the home side now on top, Byron Webster blocked a shot from Glatzel and Nichols saw an effort from range well saved by Smith.

Sowunmi then made a superb tackle to deny Glatzel as Swindon had another spell of corners, one of which saw Cheek head the ball against his own bar and Wright hit the side netting from the rebound.

Next up, Smith had a diving header from a free kick saved by his namesake and Cotterill fired narrowly wide after good work by Tshimanga, who then set up Westley who hit the post.

Then with three minutes to go, against the run of play, Bromley broke up field, Imray received the ball on the right and turned a defender before cutting inside and drilling a low dangerous cross in, which deflected off Wright and sneaked into the near post, to put The Ravens 1-0 up.

Swindon tried to muster a late response with Clark shooting wide under pressure from Ashley Charles, but it was then former Robin, Harry McKirdy who had two shots saved by Ripley at the other end.

Deep into injury time Swindon pushed everybody up for a corner, but Smith gathered the ball under pressure and the three points were secured for Andy Woodman’s side who will have been delighted with the resilient performance and the clean sheet.

The win moves Bromley up to Twelfth in League Two ahead of their final two games of the season, away at Barrow next Saturday at at home to Cheltenham Town the following week.
