Swanley open new clubhouse
Swanley open new clubhouse

Long standing members joined with new athletes for a memorial run in memory of Dave Coates, a founding member of SDAC, which followed the old Christmas Caper route of 4 miles through local surroundings.

Founding members, Alf Hill and Richard Miller Brown, were at the official opening and unveiled the David Coates memorial plaque which now hangs on the wall of the new club house.

Richard posted “On reflection, it was a truly special day.  It was a life’s highlight.  The unveiling of the David Coates memorial plaque was a fitting reminder of a truly remarkable man, and a founder of our club.  The opening of the new HQ represented fresh beginnings and a secure future for a brilliant thriving club” – these words sum up the morning for all those involved.

Club members gave their time and donated materials to totally refurbish the new space, which still houses the original benches made by Alf Hill over two decades ago.  Club Chairman, Mike Baron, thanked everyone involved for their invaluable effort and the Town Council for its continued support.

Swanley and District Athletics Club is an established running club with a reputation for being both friendly and competitive.  Our members are of all ages and ability.
