Sutton United 3-2 Bromley

Bromley suffered injury time heartache again on Tuesday night when they went down to a 92nd minute goal away at second place Sutton United, having lead the game twice against their old rivals and failed to hold on to it.

The game got off to a pacey start with Olaofe firing wide following god work by Ajiboye down the right. Bromley then settled and had the better of things, with Michael Cheek firing over from range, before The Ravens took the lead on 13 minutes.

Jack Bridge charged down the right to send in a low cross for Luke Coulson who directed the ball into the path of Cheek and the top scorer made no mistake from close range to make it 1-0.

Sutton had a good spell from there with Eastmond forcing a save from Mark Cousins, but in general Bromley kept the home side at bay, working hard and closing down space.

The home side only had their first corner on the half hour mark, which was comfortably headed away by Jack Holland. Bromley started to create chances again as the half went on, with Frankie Raymond shooting narrowly over as he pounced on a half cleared free kick.

Courtney Duffus also went close, before Sutton went close late on when Cousins saved a Beautyman header under his bar.

The second half saw Sutton start on top, Beautyman had a powerful low drive saved at the near post by Cousins and he then drilled the rebound across goal and wide.

With The Ravens sitting deeper and deeper Matt Gray’s side continued to press and they levelled up on 55 minutes when Eastmond headed a Randall free kick home at the bak post to equalise.

Oloafe and Eastmond both had efforts saved by Cousins soon after, before Bromley rallied again. Just after the hour mark The Ravens went back in front when Raymond’s free kick came out to Duffus in a crowded area who then drove the ball home from ten yards out to make it 2-1 to Neil Smith’s side.

United dominated the play again after going behind for the second time, but Bromley battled hard and tried to keep them at bay. Former Bromley striker Omar Bugeil was denied by Cousins after a strong run into the box and John also had a header saved from a corner.

The Ravens switched to a 4-5-1 formation for the last ten minutes with Ben Williamson coming on for Cheek, but their best defensive efforts were not enough in the end.

With five minutes to go Ajiboye, who had been a threat down the right all night, crossed for Beautyman who converted from close range despite Cousins trying to claw the ball away on the line.

Randall was denied by Cousins soon after with a shot from out wide, but as the clock ticked into injury time the almost inevitable Sutton goal came.

Randall cut in from the right and hit a powerful drive from long range that took a huge deflection on the edge of the six yard box giving Cousins no chance and making it 3-2 to the home side.

A frantic and ragged finish saw Bromley try and throw everyone forward, but it was to no avail and they finished empty handed.

Having lost so many points to late goals this season, this was a tough one to take for the fans, the defeat sees Bromley slip to eleventh in the table ahead of their trip to play off chasing Eastleigh on Saturday.
