Supercars coming to Brands Hatch

This weekend Brands Hatch will host some of the world’s greatest supercars and a spectacular driver line up.Supercars2

It will include Olympic Champion Sir Chris Hoy when the Avon Tyres British GT Championship will give racing fans two days of entertaining late summer racing.

A world renowned group of more than 30 supercars will take to the track’s grand prix circuit for the championship’s penultimate round before the championship travels to Donington Park for it’s final weekend of racing.

The multi- million pound field includes Sir Chris Hoy in a Nissan GT-R GT3 against British made Aston Martin’s, Bentley’s, Lotus’ and McLaren’s as well as competition from Audi Ferrari and Porsche.

The British GT Championship is well known for extremely close racing, and Formula 1-style pitstops during the two-hour race will add to the drama. Each car’s two drivers will swap places during the stop, whilst the car is refuelled and fitted with fresh tyres.Supercars3

Wrotham-based Motorbase will be fielding two high powered Aston Martin Vantage GT-3 cars under the Oman Racing Team banner. The team’s leading car currently stands in fourth in the Championship with just 37.5 points between them and the top position.

Motorbase’s Michael Caine, a former British GT Champion, and Oman’s Ahmad Al Harthy have won two of the eight races this year, and second place in the most recent round at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit has brought them into contention for the title with two rounds remaining as the Championship reaches its conclusion.

“Brands GP is one of the best circuits in the UK and it’s a pleasure to race in Motorbase’s back garden,” Caine said. “Brands has always been interesting in GTs and the season has had its up and downs but Ahmad has shown great improvement in the car.

“The Aston is a great car to race and Motorbase have done an amazing job in running the car for the first year. We need to win the championship for drivers and the team as [team boss] Mr Bartrum won’t be happy if not!”Supercars4

The weekend of racing will also include races for the GT4 class for unmodified GT cars as well as Cooper Tires Formula 3 Championship; Devon Modell, another Kent driver is currently second in the GT4 championship and just 19 points off the top spot, like Motorbase, his TF Sport team runs an Aston Martin Vantage, and the squad is aiming to add a third win to bring the title race down to the wire.

The Formula 3 Championship has also provided great racing all season and is also used as another step forward for potential Grand Prix drivers, the championship has seen drivers such as Jenson Button and Daniel Riccardo.

Also on the bill will be the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, containing even more stars of tomorrow, including Will Palmer, 17-year-old son of Brands Hatch owner Jonathan Palmer.
