Superbug strikes again
Superbug strikes again

The sickness bug that swept through the Charlton ranks is showing no signs of abating.

Lee Bowyer, Alfie Doughty and Dillon Phillips are the latest victims.‎ Doughty was due to start against Hull on Friday but had to pull out late on.

Bowyer and Phillips were stricken over the weekend. The bug may account for Phillips’ late lapse that gave Hull a second equaliser.

‎Here are Bowyer’s thoughts on the bug:

“Dillon (Phillips) and myself have had it over the weekend. You feel like you have got no energy.

“I’m hoping it doesn’t spread any further because the problem is if someone gets it a little later this week then they could be too weak to play at the weekend. It is just draining and knocks everything out of you.

“If a player got it Tuesday then they’d struggle to play Saturday. We’re low on numbers as it is.”

It is not just when the bug becomes visible either, it has an effect as soon as it enters the system.

It takes a while to clear up too that said Bowyer had some brighter news on the injury situation though:

“Sam (Field) is due to be back with us Wednesday, and hopefully he and Jonny (Williams) will get through the next couple of days.

“We have to be careful – like with Lyle (Taylor). Lyle will be ready to start now. Whether we just chuck him in, I don’t know.

“It might be a case of giving him another 45 minutes. We’ll see how it goes this week.

“At least a couple more are coming back.”If Taylor is given the all clear to play 90 minutes, it is hard to believe he will not start at Loftus Road.
