Sunderland linked with Diego move

Free daily paper, the Metro, is reporting that new Sunderland boss, Gus Poyet, wants to make his son, Diego, his first signing.Soccer - FA Youth Cup - Third Round - Wolverhampton Wanderers U18 v Charlton Athletic U18 - Molineux

Diego is a highly rated midfielder and is thought to have also attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

The Zaragoza born 18-year-old was part of Nathan Jones’ hugely successful Under-21 squad last season but has yet to be picked by Chris Powell for a match day squad, but reports suggest that Poyet senior is willing to pay £2m to take his son to the Stadium Of Light.

It will be interesting to see how the story develops as the January transfer window draws closer. In the current financial climate, if the reports are accurate, the offer would be too good for Charlton to turn down.
