Herne Bay Roller Hockey Club U15s continued their impressive start to their 2016-17 campaign with three wins out of three in the second Eastern Counties Division 1 tournament in Peterborough.
Played on a very small, bouncy rink; alien conditions for Bay who are used to a full-size, European standard rink at Herne Bay Arena, the team took a little time to get into their stride in match one against Ely & Chesterton United. Play was a little rushed at times but the team had no problem finding the back of the net and ultimately ran out 10-3 winners.
Bay’s next match was against a team billed as “England Project”, essentially players who are in a training programme under the national coach and cherry picked from clubs across the country. Bay dominated the first half, allowing England very little possession. After a sustained period of attacking play, Bay finally broke through and the floodgates opened with a final tally of nine unanswered goals.
Only host team Peterborough now stood between Bay and a clean sweep and this match was to begin in extraordinary fashion with Joe Chipperfield notching a hat-trick of goals within the first 54 seconds. Bay pressed home their advantage to end the match with a 15-1 victory, their most dominant performance of the season so far.
All five outfield contributed goals in this tournament, an indication of their adaptability in defence and attack. Edan Emery-Webber completed a solid tournament in goal conceding just 4 goals in 112 minutes of play.
Bay now look forward to their home tournament which will take place in Soham on January 7th.
