Mike Bushell had a great weekend at Knockhill in the Clio Cup as he took a win and a podium in the latest round of the season.
Indeed it was a lights to flag victory for the man from Tunbridge Wells as he took pole position on Saturday afternoon.
It means that Bushell has now started on pole position for the last four rounds of the season.
Although under significant pressure, both before and after an early Safety Car period, Bushell managed to keep his pursuers at bay and during the final third of the race he was able to back off a little, avoiding any unnecessary risks.
He eventually took the flag just 0.7 seconds clear of SV Racing with KX driver Ant Whorton-Eales with 20Ten Racing’s Jordan Stilp third. Bushell’s chief title rivals, series leader Josh Cook and James Colburn, finished eighth and seventh respectively.
Speaking after the weekend, Bushell said: “My start was probably one of the best out there so I’m well pleased. We actually put the old clutch back in the car which we’d binned, there was obviously nothing wrong with it!”
“To have four poles in a row, that’s a show of our pace, and to win and get that off my back is absolutely fantastic.”
“Luckily for me Cook and Colburn finished quite a way down so that’s take a big chunk ouf of them, I’m back to second in the championship and this has dented the gap to Cook as well so e’ve just got to keep this going.”
In race two Stilp got the jump on Bushell at the start and he was running well and finished third and on the podium for the second time in the weekend.
His excellent points haul puts him back in the championship hunt in second place.
