Gillingham striker Ben Strevens has left the club to sign a deal with League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge.
The 32 year old striker was signed in the summer on a free transfer by Martin Allen following his release by Wycombe Wanderers, but found chances hard to come by at The Gills over the past six months.
Strevens was told by Allen at the start of the January transfer window that he was surplus to requirements at Priestfield having made just 15 appearances this season, scoring twice in the process.
The striker announced on Twitter he was leaving Gillingham this afternoon, telling fans:
“Just want to say a big thank you to everyone at Gillingham FC. To all the staff, fans and the boys. Good luck for the rest of the season.”
“Really hope you go on and win the league and get a deserved promotion up to league 1… Gonna miss the boys they’ve been quality x.”
Strevens last appearance for The Gills was in the 2-2 draw at home to Fleetwood Town in mid December, however he was an unused substitute as the side beat Northampton Town 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Speaking to Daggers.co.uk, manager John Still was thrilled to have signed the 32 year old for the third time:
“We wanted to get someone in with a touch more experience, and since Dwight (Gayle) left us we have been short of creativity.”
“Having played with me at Barnet and here at Dagenham, I know his capabilities and he is the ideal player at this particular moment to come in”
Strevens added: “I just want to play really. I’ve been with a team who have been top of the table in Gillingham but once I knew what the gaffer wanted to do here, I just wanted to come, get games and hopefully help the club push up the table.”
