Streatham 3-3 Invicta Dynamos
The Invicta Dynamos came away from Streatham with a 3-3 draw in the 1st leg of the play-off semi-finals on Saturday night.

The Dynamos travelled without Nicky Lewis, Adam McNicoll, James Richardson and all three Wootton’s but were able to recall captain Callum Fowler.

Ondrej Zošiak got lucky in the first couple of minutes when he let the puck go past him and Daniel Rose struck the post for Streatham. Moments later hard work from Scott Bailey almost created an opening for the Mo’s but to no avail.

Streatham opened the scoring on 4:26, George Norcliffe dispatching past Damien King with assists going to Ryan Webb and James Warman.

A slashing penalty on Steven Fisher gave the Mo’s a powerplay seconds later, Adam Řehák going closest but Streatham maintained their resilient start to keep the Mo’s at bay.

Another minor penalty, this time against Ryan Webb once again presented the Mo’s with an extra man advantage but they rarely troubled Matt Colclough’s net with Callum Fowler air-shotting a Řehák pass across the goalmouth to compound to the woes.

Steven Fisher had a great chance to double the lead in the 17th minute but he was unable to beat Damien King.

Midway through the first period Mason Webster and Jack Tarczycki had a small coming together – and they locked horns again in the 18th minute with both players getting two penalty minutes for holding.

On the resulting 4 on 4 the Dynamos thought they scored when Steve Osman appeared to have poked the puck through a crowd of bodies but despite desperate appeals made to referee Blaine Evans the goal was never given.

The second period was a better start for the Mo’s – Steve Osman finding Scott Bailey with enough space to shoot beyond Colclough for 1-1 on 21:49.

For the next several minutes both teams cancelled each other out but Ondrej Zošiak tried to make an exception when bursting forward but couldn’t connect to a Mo’s colleague.

Ryan Webb restored the lead on 31:38, Chris Cooke hovering behind King’s goal to find Webb unmarked who shot past the helpless King for 2-1.

The 34th minute had both teams registering opportunities, Joe Johnston almost tipping beyond King whilst Webster and Řehák both had half chances blocked.

A James Warman minor penalty for elbows on 36:17 presented the Mo’s with another powerplay. Scott Bailey had a snapshot saved whilst Fowler elected to pass seconds later when shooting would have been the better choice.

Pressure paid off on 37:43 – the Mo’s bringing it back to 2-2 on the powerplay through Callum Fowler assisted by Ondrej Zošiak and Tommy Ralph.

Tempers flared in the last 4 seconds of the period, Steve Fisher wiping out Damien King off the puck and getting a two minute penalty as a result.

Tempers were again boiling over on the buzzer with insults and threats being banding about by both sets of players leading to Blaine Evans trying to call for calm.

The final period started with Mo’s still in the powerplay but it wasn’t pretty – so much so that King had to deny Alex Sampford from scoring shorthanded.

Callum Fowler broke clear of Jack Tarczycki on 47 minutes but just as he was about to strike a shot, Tarczycki recovered well to rob Fowler.

On 48:21 all hell broke out. Rehak and Fisher initially getting in a tangle which resulted in Rehak and his man marker Jacob Ranson starting to tussle – until Adam Wood also decided to join in – seconds later Harrison Lillis also joined in the bundle.

Once calm was restored Blaine Evans dished out the penalties with Tommy Ralph surprisingly chucked out of the game despite not being involved in the incident.

As soon as play was restored Scott Bailey took a check to the face, not clearly seen by Evans so no punishment given out – and play delayed whilst blood was cleared from the ice.

A slashing penalty against Chris Cooke gave the Mo’s a 5 on 3 for at least 35 seconds and Scott Bailey almost scored before Ashley Jackson did on 50:29 making it 2-3 after snapping up a rebound from a shot Colclough saved.

Ondrej Zošiak burst forward on 54 minutes and his cutback to Scott Bailey has Colclough in action again as the Mo’s tried to double the lead.

Bailey once again tested Colclough 30 seconds later, but again the netminder saved.

The Dynamos had to defend well on 55:25 after Mason Webster received a two minute penalty for cross checking.

Although the powerplay was well defended, as soon as the Mo’s went full strength they conceded for 3-3 on 57:34 with Dan Rose grabbing the equaliser for what ended up being the last goal of the evening.

Man of the match for Invicta went to Scott Bailey with Streatham’s Jacob Ranson getting the same award for his closing marking of Adam Řehák.
