Stones overcome Lashings in charity game

It was a game of two halves on Sunday as the Maidstone United legends took on the Lashings All Stars managed by former England striker Tony Cottee.Ralf Little & Chris Whyte 2 AI9X8168

With former England internationals Luther Blissett, Kerry Dixon, Nigel Winterburn and Neil Webb amongst their ranks, it was no real surprise to the 751 watching on at the Gallagher Stadium that the Lashings All Stars went in at the break three goals up.

Cottee presided over a side that started with Soccer Am presenter Max Rushden, actor Ralf Little and former Arsenal striker Perry Groves in their ranks, whilst the Maidstone side boasted legends such as Steve Butler, Terry Cordice and Jason Lillis in their starting eleven.

However, they were to be given a real treat as the game was to end 7-3 to the Maidstone United legends after the ninety minutes with the two teams competing for the Molson Coors Cup with proceeds from the day going to two year old little girl called Winnie who is battling with leukemia.Lashings All-Stars v Maidstone Legends

The Lashings all stars raced into the three goal lead with Kerry Dixon heading home former Millwall and Liverpool winger Jimmy Carter’s pinpoint cross, whilst former Maidstone United keeper Mark Beeney buried his head into his hands after turning a cross into his own net with former Manchester United defender Clayton Blackmore superbly lobbing the ex Stones keeper from around 25 yards out.

The game was to turn around completely though and despite being able to field the likes of former Spurs defender David Howells, ex Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair and Kent coach Jimmy Adams, it was the Maidstone legends that put on a footballing masterclass in the second period.Lashings All-Stars v Maidstone Legends

A Richard Sinden hat-trick along with goals from Ryan Royston, Richard Monks, Nathan Paul and Jimmy Strouts sealed the win for the Stones with the majority of the crowd having gone home happy to see such an exciting game despite the sub zero temperature.
