Stockport County 1-1 Bromley

Bromley picked up a point away at Stockport with a dramatic late equaliser in front of the BT Sports cameras at Edgeley Park on Saturday evening extending their unbeaten run in the National League to ten games.

Playing their first home game under new manager Dave Challinor Stockport started the game on top, Jude Arthurs making a superb block to deny Madden, before Croasdale hooked a half volley towards goal which Mark Cousins saved.

Rydel then fired over and then kit another effort across the face of goal, which just skimmed wide. Bromley slowed the pace of the game down from there and started to get control of the ball with Arthurs sending in a great cross for James Alabi who headed wide at the near post.

County then had a goal ruled out for offside before the half came to a close all square.

The second half saw Stockport start on top and they went in front on 49 minutes when Quigley was given time and space on the edge of the area to control the ball and coolly slot it home into the far corner of the goal to put the home side in front.

Andy Woodman then changed Bromley shape from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 bringing on Marcus Sablier as The Ravens started to look much more positive and stronger in midfield.

Alabi was brought down by an awful challenge from Rooney and Michael Cheek fired the resulting free kick over the bar. Bromley regained control of the play for a spell as Stockport became more physical giving away a number of free kicks in the middle of the field, but they then also had a decent spell of pressure with Rooney, Quigley and Rydel all going close.

Then in the final few minutes of the game Bromley pushed on for a leveler and when a Chris Bush long throw was only cleared to Luke Coulson, the Ravens midfielder sent in a great ball that was headed towards goal by Omar Sowunmi and turned into his own net by newly arrived sub Hogan at the far post to equalise for Bromley.

In injury time Stockport pressed again, but after Palmer had an effort well saved by Cousins the final whistle sounded and The Ravens held on for their unlikely point.

This performance was testament to Bromley’s resilience, never say die attitude and fantastic work ethic that has kept them in the top four of the league and within four points of the leaders with a game in hand going into their home game with Kings Lynn next Saturday.
