Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens held the catch to seal the Dhaka Gladiators’ berth in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League.Darren Stevens Dhaka3

Despite failing to score with the bat as the Gladiators beat the Sylhet Royals by four runs, Stevens took the important catches of Shiv Chanderpaul and Elton Chigumbura to help his side book their place in the prestigious final.

However, it was West Indian batsman Chris Gayle that stole the show as the Gladiators posted an imposing 197 for 9 in their 20 overs with the opener smashing a staggering 114 off just 51 balls.

In an innings that included five fours and 12 sixes, Gayle smashed the Royals bowling attack to all parts as wickets tumbled at the other end.

The Royals came close to winning the game, taking it down to the last ball of the match, but in the end it was the Gladiators that will go through to face either Chittagong Kings or Duronto Rajshahi in Tuesday’s final.

Should Stevens and  the Gladiators win Tuesday’s final, it would see the Kent all-rounder and the Bangladesh franchise defend the crown they took in 2012.
