Despite not winning her comeback fight Louise Stevens was more than pleased with her performance and the support she received.
The fight was so competitive that both Louise and her opponent Ceilidh Brown couldn’t be separated and Brown prevailed by split decision.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News after the right and what it felt like after being away from the ring for four years, Lou said: “It was amazing, I was buzzing. I loved every minute of it. Boxing is a fantastic sport and I’m a fighter at heart, I can’t wait to do it again.
“Of course, training and fighting experience are completely different. The bout was brilliant, the crowd really enjoyed it. We both put on a performance and I’m sure a lot of people would love to see us fight again.”
There were three close rounds of boxing and Lou admits at no stage did she underestimate Ceilidh and her talent.
She added: “I never underestimated my opponent she trains out of a great club who produce some top fighters and I trained intensively for 15 weeks. I was hoping not to leave it to the judge’s decision. Ceilidh took the punches I landed very well and followed it up with good counter attacks. It was a close and exciting bout!”
“I am a very aggressive and determined fighter who rarely stops moving forward. In time, this will become a massive strength as I look to put my opponents under pressure and enforce my game plan. However looking back on the fight and due to my inexperience as a boxer this caused me a few problems as I took more shots then I should have.”
“I have already begun addressing this by utilising my strengths, continuing my aggressive pressuring tactics against my sparring partners, whilst learning to slip and block punches and become a more complete boxer with a more rounded style.”
“I think win or lose I would have learnt a lot from this fight as I would any fight. There are always going to be things you can improve on and more you can learn. I can honestly say that I agree with the Judge’s decision and Ceilidh deserved to win. She was a brilliant opponent and dealt with my attacking style very well. She showed great boxing ability massive respect to her.”
Lou is already looking ahead to her next fight and the work that she needs to do to get better than she was in her first fight back.
She said: “I am back to solid training again. I have a lot to work on with my boxing and I’m really looking forward to progressing. I also want to improve on my condition and become stronger, faster and fitter. There are no fights lined up at the moment.”
“My training is going to continue at the same intensity if not harder. I enjoy every minute of my training. There has not been one training session I did not want to attend, nor one time I did not want to get my head guard on and spar. I have a real passion for this sport and will keep driving forward.”
