Stansfeld v Erith & Belvedere preview

Presence & Co. Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division football takes place in Eltham this evening when Stansfeld host Erith and Belvedere.

Although Stansfeld only claimed a point on Saturday, extending their league run to four games without a victory, they won’t be dissatisfied having drawn nil-nil with title hopefuls Faversham Town. However, Billy Shinners, their manager, will want to start picking up some wins soon even though they have played fewer games than some of the clubs around them so the league table may not give a true reflection.

Meanwhile, draw experts Erith and Belvedere were returning to winning ways with a hard earned win at home to Holland and Blairs. Ryan Fowler scored the only goal just after the hour mark.

Their hopes of finishing in the play-off places may have been distracted by their F.A. Vase campaign which ended at the quarter finals but joint managers, Billy Hamlin and Jamie Phipps will be pushing their players to focus on the league now.

They are still only eight points adrift of the play-offs with many still available so a good run could see them playing pro-season football.

When the two teams met at Welling back in September, there was drama late on as Erith claimed all three points. After a goal-less first half Tunde Aderonmu put the Deres ahead from a Freddie Cray assist. Within four minutes, the scores were levelled when Harvey Mead crossed and Chris Alhassan finished.

It looked as though the match was going to end with the honours shared but Tyller Davis-Whitlock had either ideas when he latched onto a long pass forward and slotted it home in the final minute of regulation time. There could be another tight game this time around, as well, especially with local derby honours at stake.
