Staines Town v Welling Utd Preview

Blue Square Bet South league leaders, Welling United, travel to StainesTown on Tuesday night keen to get back to winning ways following Saturday’s defeat at Salisbury.Welling United

Wings’ player-manager Jamie Day will be back in contention to start following the completion of his two match ban however Giannoulis Fakinos will still be absent.

More good news for Day came in the form of the return of Joe Healy following a spell out injured. He came on as a substitute on Saturday and scored for Welling from the penalty spot. Providing he felt no ill effects afterwards, he too will be vying for a starting place.

Whether jack Obersteller is able to return remains questionable and it is hoped that no other Welling player picked up a knock on Saturday.

Staines are in curious form having hammered Hayes and Yeading United 7-1 last Wednesday but then lost at home to a Farnborough side who were forced to play an outfield player in goal as they no longer have a fit goalkeeper in their squad.

Earlier in the season, Welling twice came from behind, thanks to goals from Lee Clarke and Jake Gallagher, before clinching an exciting encounter with a last minute goal by Jon Main.

Last season at Staines, Welling lost a topsy-turvey match by four goals to two. Even though they had a two man advantage for a spell, following the dismissal of two Swans players, Welling were unable to take advantage. Ben Martin was then also dismissed by referee Ian Cooper, the same official who sent him off at Eastbourne on Easter Monday. Both Welling’s goals were scored by debutant Ryan Flack that night.

Welling can expect to have another good support hoping to cheer their team nearer to the finishing line.
