Charlton announced another two staff appointments on Tuesday. Chris Jones is the new club doctor, and Alistair Thrush is head of medical sevices.
Jones joins from Leyton Orient – where he worked with Russell Slade – and Thrush was formerly head of physiotherapy services at Arsenal’s academy.
Academy physio, Adam Coe, has stepped up from the academy to take on first team duties and Slade had this to say about the medical department shake up:
“Chris is the ideal fit as Club Doctor for us. He got his face around the boys straight away is going to be a really good presence around the players for sure.
“We are delighted to have got Alastair away from Arsenal. He has already developed a relationship with Adam, who he’ll be working very closely with in the first-team set-up.
“The big thing for the medical department is to build up trust between themselves and the players and that already seems positive.
“That is very important going forward, it’s an important place when you go into their room.
“You need to know that you’re getting the right treatment, the right diagnosis and we have got two very astute, hard-working medical men in Chris and Alastair that I’m sure will prove to be a real help to us over the coming season and years.”
The Addicks drew 0-0 with Ipswich on Tuesday evening, in a drab affair. Dillon Phillips kept a third consecutive clean sheet, and had to produce one or two smart saves.
The hosts were guilty of over playing at the back on occasions, and we’re fortunate not to be punished.
Though they put together some neat moves, Charlton offered little going forward, with Nicky Ajose often looking isolated.
Lee Novak – missing with a hand injury – is a good partner for Ajose, the duo are far more effective when used in tandem.
Russell Slade started with Andrew Crofts anchoring midfield, and Ricky Holmes, Johnnie Jackson and Callum Harriott playing in more advanced roles.
Slade hopes to have more arrivals before KRC Waalwijk arrive on Saturday. He will want to welcome back some of his injued players before the season kicks-off at Bury as well.
