Spitfires looking to tame Eagles
Spitfires looking to tame Eagles

The Kent Spitfires will be looking to keep their T20 hopes alive when the Essex Eagles come to Canterbury on Friday night.

Their 48 run victory over the Surrey Lions at The Oval on Thursday night has given the Spitfires a chance of still making it to the Quarter Final stage of the Twenty 20 Cup.

To stand any chance of making it through to a top three place in the Southern Division, the Spitfires will probably need to beat the Eagles on Friday night and follow that up with a win against the Middlsex Panthers at Uxbridge on Sunday afternoon.

Rob Key’s side showed they were more than capable of pulling off a fine performance as they upset the Lions on their home turf.

The comfortable win was especially pleasing considering Adam Riley was drafted into the side at short notice after James Tredwell’s call up to the England One Day International squad.

Riley is set to keep his place in the side with the Spitfires likely to keep faith with the same eleven that served them so well up in London.

That will see both Sam Northeast and Sam Billings opening the innings once again, with Key set to come in at number three.

Overseas signing Brendan Nash could miss out once again as became a parent once again in the past few days.

That will allow Alex Blake to keep his place in the side after his man of the match performance at The Oval.

One man that will be coming back to the St Lawrence Ground is comedian Rob Beckett, with the 8 out of 10 cats star back at the ground where he was a steward:

“It’ll be nice to be back where I was a steward. I got to watch a lot of cricket, which was a bonus for me. There was never any pitch invasions to deal with, so it was just a case of having to stand around and watch the game.”

“With a bit of luck the weather will be nice and people will come out in their numbers to watch the game. I’ll be going around and seeing that everyone is having a good time, doing some interviews with people and telling the odd joke.”

Kent have named an unchanged twelve man squad for the game with Ben Harmison set to be twelfth man yet again.

Kent squad: Billings, Northeast, Key, Stevens, Mahmood, Blake, Jones, Cook, Ball, Davies, Riley, Harmison.

The game starts at 7pm and fans can still pick up tickets from www.kentcricket.co.uk for what surely must be one of the most anticipated games of the season.
