Spitfires looking to put bite into Sharks

The Kent Spitfires will be going all out to beat the Sussex Sharks in the CB40 at Canterbury on Bank Holiday Monday.

A win would guarantee the Spitfires a home semi-final berth in this year’s competition and just one step away from a Lord’s final.

With the Sharks dumped out of the Twenty 20 Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday, they will be keen to come to Canterbury and secure themselves a spot in the semi-finals of the CB40 as they go into the game in second place behind the Spitfires.

Rob Key’s side will go into the game in a rich vein of form in the CB40 after beating Yorkshire Carnegie at the St Lawrence Ground on Wednesday night.

Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens is keen that the side don’t get ahead of themselves:“It’s a big game. They’re a fantastic side and I think they are in the hunt for all competitions, so they will be a tough side to beat. It will be all on the day as One Day games are, we’ll see what pitch we get and go from there.”

“It’s crucial that we get the home tie, certainly for the club and the supporters. As players, we just want to be in the semi-finals, we’re not bothered where we play it, but it would be nice for it to be at home, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves as we have got a big game on Monday to win first.”

Head Coach, Jimmy Adams commented ahead of the match: “The last few matches have all been like finals and this is another so we know that we will have to play well. We have got home advantage, which helps. The crowd really got behind us against Derbyshire and Yorkshire and we need the same again.

“It was great to see Rob score the century against Yorkshire. He has been hitting the ball very well in the nets and produced a great knock for the side. It was a good team win against Yorkshire. It’s my first season with the Club so it would mean a lot to reach the knockout stage of the CB40.”

The full squad to face Sussex Sharks will be:

Rob Key

Sam Billings

Sam Northeast

Alex Blake

Darren Stevens

Geraint Jones

Brendan Nash

Simon Cook

Mark Davies

Fabian Cowdrey
