Spennymoor Town v Bromley preview

Tuesday night sees the biggest game in Bromley’s recent history as The Ravens travel up to County Durham to face Spennymoor Town in the FA Trophy Quarter Final replay.

The two sides drew 0-0 at Hayes Lane on 2ndMarch and with the initial replay postponed due to heavy snow, the teams are set to meet this week in a one off match with will go to extra time and penalties if necessary to settle the result.

Neither team had played since the first game due to the bad weather, with Bromley now tenth in the National League with 52points from 34 games and Spennymoor a division below in National League North currently seventh with 48points from 27 played and games in hand on all the teams above them, having only lost once this year.

The winners of this tie will face the winners of the replay between Gateshead and Leyton Orient in a two legged semi final later this month with a place in the final at Wembley Stadium at stake.

In the original tie both sides had chances to win the game, but both keepers were in form. The closest being Brandon Hanlan’s header, which was brilliantly tipped away by Moors keeper Daniel Lowson in the second half.

This is already the furthest Bromley have gone in the trophy since entering in 1973, although the original incarnation of Spennymoor did reach the semi final in 1978 before losing to Leatherhead.

It’s been 69years since Bromley last played at the stadium winning the FA Amateur Cup 1-0 over Romford in 1949 in from of 93,000. The Moors visited and recorded a win there much more recently when beating Tunbridge Wells in the 2011 FA Vase Final. Both clubs will be desperate to get through and go one step closer to achieving another chance of repeating their historic victories.
