After three postponements and the whole quarter final replay saga Bromley finally booked their place in the FA Trophy Semi Final on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over Spennymoor Town at Darlington having done one down early on with goals from Louis Dennis and Frankie Raymond.
The victory now sets up the first leg of the semi final against Gateshead, which takes place at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.
The Heed booked their semi final place with a 3-2 replay win over Leyton Orient last week and have since beaten Maidenhead Utd 7-1 and drawn 2-2 with Solihull at The International Athletics Stadium.
Steve Watson’s side now sit twelfth in the National League with 48 points from 36 games and travel down to Bromley on a strong run of form having not lost in five matches.
Their resilience typified by coming back from three down at Orient in the original quarter final tie and scoring a last minute equaliser on Tuesday night.
Bromley remain tenth in the table on 55 points from 35 games, with eleven league games and two cup games to squeeze into the final six weeks of the regular season for a squad of only 18 players.
When the two sides met up on Tyneside in October The Ravens won 2-1 with a strike from Louis Dennis and an own goal.
Neil Smith will be hoping that on-loan Ipswich full back Luke Woolfenden will be able to return from illness ahead of the game, as the youngster has been hugely impressive since joining in December.
This should be a tough close fought contest between two good sides with a huge prize on offer at the end of the two games.
It’s been 69 years since Bromley last played at Wembley Stadium, when they won the FA Amateur Cup Final over Romford in 1949 watched by 93,000 fans.
With trips to Hartley Wintney, Blyth Spartans, Workington, Spennymoor and now Gateshead next week, Bromley will have taken the long route should they make it to Wembley this time, but it will have been worth it.
