Central Park will play host to another intrepid female Speedway rider from over the Atlantic; and it’s a first for any Kent circuit to see out on track, a rider from Argentina.
Micaela Bazan will be celebrating her 26th birthday next month and has amazingly been competing at Speedway in her native land for over 19 years: almost always taking on and beating her male counterparts!
This modern day ‘Evita’ of the track hails from Daireaux, a town near the Argentine capital city of Buenos Aires and it was at the age of seven at the Guglieri Sports and Social Club Speedway track in her home town that she made her racing debut.
From there the daughter of former racer from the 1970s Miguel Bazan graduated quickly to full 500cc competition and at the age of 14 years was a star of the junior scene at the “Hector Evaristo” track in Bahia Blanca.
Mica was runner up in the 500cc National Junior Championship in the Winter Series in 2005 in her home country; and come the Summer of the following year, still aged only 15 years, she beat all-comers (yes, all her beaten opponents were men!) to take the Open International Championship of Argentina : the top title in the whole of South America.
More recently when the World Speedway under 21 Championship came to her parent track in Bahia Blanca in 2012, Mica rode in some opening races.
There’s no question Mica is right up there as one of the top Speedway riders from Latin America and indeed the Spanish-speaking world and she’s rated by many observers as possibly the top female rider on the planet.
Micaela will be riding demonstration races (with the female track record firmly in her sights) during the meeting on this coming Monday vs. Eastbourne Eagles.
