Solihull Moors have been somewhat of a bogey team for Bromley since their promotion to the National League and Saturday was to prove no different.
Despite a spirited display by the Ravens goals either side of half time from Gavin Gunning and Danny Wright put the game beyond Bromley, who could only reply with an Alfie Doughty tap-in deep into injury time.
The game had looked in doubt a few hours before kick-off as rail cancellations kept the Bromley squad at Euston station until 1200pm. Consequently the team did not arrive at Damson Park until 2.30pm necessitating a 15 minute delayed kick off.
The travel setback did not appear to hamper the Ravens, however, as they started the game much brighter than the home side.
Within the opening ten minutes of the game Bromley should have been in front several times.
Firstly calamitous defending in the Solihull penalty area saw Lee Vaughan crash a clearance against Liam Daly that deflected narrowly over the crossbar.
From the resultant corner Billy Bingham saw his 25 yard strike deflected inches wide of the post before Michael Cheek saw his volley from the next corner cleared off the line.
When Solihull did work their way into the game it was no surprise to see Jamey Osborne at the centre of most of the action.
The attacking midfielder gave notice of his intentions with a jinking run past several defenders that ended with him crashing a shot against the base of the post.
With both teams largely cancelling each other out and Bromley happy to break quickly on the counter it was somewhat against the run of play when Gunning broke the deadlock.
Four minutes before the interval Jamie Reckford recycled a wayward cross laying the ball back to Gunning on the edge of the area who made no mistake with a low angled drive past Huddart.
The second half began the same way as the first with Bromley not taking their opportunities. Cheek’s flick on set Reeco Hackett-Fairchild through on goal but the frontman lofted his effort over the bar when it was easier to hit the target.
Huddart was able to keep the one goal deficit in tact with a smart fingertip save from an Osborne free kick but he could do nothing about the second Solihull goal in the 53rd minute.
Good link up play between Osborne and Beesley saw the latter cross for Danny Wright who prodded home at the second attempt.
Bromley to their credit did keep trying to find a way through and Jack Holland was unlucky to see his volley from a Luke Coulson corner cleared off the line.
Substitute Josh Rees saw his effort from distance spilled behind by Ryan Boot before Holland headed unto the roof of the net from the following corner.
When Bromley did pull a goal back it was too little too late, a cross found its way through a sea of legs to the backpost where an unmarked Doughty had the simple task of tapping into an empty net.
Bromley will now take a break from league action as they play Aldershot Town next Saturday in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round.
