Solid weekend for Ward
Solid weekend for Ward

Tom Ward had an excellent weekend with two fifth place finishes in the National Superstock Championship at Oulton Park last weekend.

Tom Ward headed up row 2 of the grid for race 1 on the Saturday and got off to a fantastic start as by the third corner he was up into 2nd place and on the last corner his famous leg dangle came out and he took an early lead of the race. It was short lived as he went slightly wide going into turn one losing out to Charlie Nesbitt and Davey Todd.

He then pushed back to go back into second place with elbows out. This continued throughout the race battling at the front with Alex Olsen, Nesbitt and Todd with Billy McConnell making a late dive on lap 5 pushing Tom Ward back to P5 which is where he eventually finished after taking the chequered flag after 11 laps.

Again in race 2 Tom Ward got a great start from row 2 of the grid manoeuvring his way through the pack to slot into 2nd place but this time it was short lived as the safety car was deployed allowing everyone to bunch up. On lap McConnell and Olsen got the better of him as the slide underneath the 27 year old. The race had been shortened due to red flags, with Ward crossing the line in fifth place.

Speaking after the weekend, Ward said: “A positive weekend with two fifth places at Oulton Park, another personal best for me and the fastest lap time on an Aprilia round there which was good.

“The pace was mega and it was good that we were in the battle at the front for the lead but we just didn’t quite have enough to fight for the win and in race two the same sort of thing happened and also the race was cut short by the red flag.

“It was nice to be up at the front again and I’m happy how the bike is feeling and I am feeling really comfortable so I am hoping to be able to convert that into some wins at Donington Park.”
