Team Hard had a solid home round of the Volkswagen Racing Cup as the championship rolled into Brands Hatch at the weekend.
The best result for the team came in Sunday’s second and final race of the weekend, with Michael Epps taking victory, after the race was red flagged. It was the driver’s third win in four races and underlined his quality behind the wheel.
Howard Fuller finished race one in fifth place and with it the team’s best result in the opening race of the weekend. He was then to lead race two before contact between he and Tom Onslow-Cole led Fuller to fall down the race and out of contention.
Simon Rudd who was racing on his home track went into the weekend full of confidence on the back of a good weekend in the VAG Trophy the weekend before. A 12th place finish in race one, was hampered because he was catching the two cars in front of him when the safety car was deployed which negated his potential to finish in the top ten.
In race two of the weekend, Rudd moved through to finish in 10th place once the race restarted before it was red flagged after three laps of the restart.
Bobby Thompson finished race one in eleventh place having charged through the field, before improving dramatically in race two with an eighth place finish, which underlined that but for an issue at the start of race one he could have been challenging the top five.
Damani Marcano had an uneventful opening race of the weekend with a 21st place finish, the same however couldn’t be said for race two. Marcano was to see his race ended before he had even made it into the first corner, and he was just an unfortunate victim being involved in someone else’s first lap incident.
