Kent’s Adrian Quaife-Hobbs had a solid feature race in Bahrain this afternoon as he brought his MP Motorsport car home in 7th place in the GP2.
Jolyon Palmer was even more impressive having qualified 13th on the grid he managed to weave his way through the field in an entertaining race to finish just outside the podium places in 5th place.
Quaife-Hobbs even had the taste for the lead of the race as he stayed out longer than his rivals after starting on the harder tyre. His rivals had decided to start on the softer option which meant that he lead the race during the pit stops, until on lap 20 the Kent lad had to pit for fresh rubber himself.
In the last few laps of the race Quaife-Hobbs who was in eighth place was in a tremendous battle with Tom Dillman, taking seventh place. That move meant that he netted his first points of the season, with six for the seventh place.
Unfortunately despite an entertaining tussle Quaife-Hobbs couldn’t find his way past Sam Bird in his Russian Time machine, who finished in 6th place.
It was Fabio Leimar who won the race showing his dominance so far this weekend, having qualified on pole position. He will be one of the challengers for the championship alongside Stefano Coletti who finished third second this afternoon.
Coletti who was fourth on the grid had a clear run down to the first corner after Marcus Ericsson stalled his car on the grid before the warm-up lane, meaning that he had to start from the pit lane.
Impressive also was American driver Alexander Rossi, who managed to finish on the podium in his first race this season for Caterham, as he brought the car home in third place.
Tom Dillman will be the man who starts the reverse pole race from pole position tomorrow afternoon.
You will be able to see the Sprint race live on the SKY F1 channel tomorrow just before the Formula One gets underway.
