Invicta Dynamos came away with a draw from a foggy Gosport despite leading 2-1 going into the third period.
Adam McNicoll, Grant Baxter, Haydn & Taylor Wootton and Nicky Lewis were all missing from the visiting roster.
One of the two referees for the night was a man who needed no introduction to the Dynamos fans, Blaine Evans.
The Dynamos started at a steady pace in the first period and on 3.50 Ondrej Zosiak came close from a shot from the blue line during a powerplay but the puck was firmly held by home netminder Chico Cole.
At the other end of the ice, Damien King made his first save of the night, gathering a shot from George Norcliffe on 6.31.
Further chances for the Dynamos fell to Josh Condren, Conor Redmond and Ondrej Zosiak but the Solent defence and netminder Cole held firm.
When Conor Redmond was penalised for boarding on 15.39 Solent took advantage of the resulting powerplay to score through Ben Lock who drove a shot through a load of bodies into the corner of the Invicta goal with Damien King unsighted on 16.17.
The second period started with an Arran Strawson v Chico Cole contest, Cole saving from Strawson on 20:40 and 23:00 when it looked certain the Mo’s D-man would equalise. A loose puck on 23.40 fell to Zosiak who didn’t think twice about shooting but Cole again denied him.
Any doubt about where and when the Dynamos goal would come from was put to rest on 25.40. Arran Strawson picked the puck up from a face-off laid back to him by Steve Osman and Strawson skated down the Solent left and fired a shot across the goal that hit Cole and fell into the net.
A few minutes later on 29.12 Invicta doubled their lead to 2-1 when Conor Redmond prodded the puck past Cole after Zosiak struck the puck across the goal mouth.
The mist from outside the rink got to Stephen Gosset five seconds later when he jumped Josh Condren. The officials consisting of Mr. Evans and Mr. Biggs only saw the incident as a minor penalty and gave a lucky Gosset 2 minutes for roughing.
The third period began with Josh Condren skating behind Cole’s net and to find Conor Redmond but Redmond was quickly closed down and his shot was padded away by Cole’s outstretched leg pad.
A scramble in front of Cole’s goal on 44 minutes led to opportunities for Ranson, Condren and Zosiak but Cole was equal to anything thrown at him.
Failed chances were soon punished and Solent grabbed an equaliser through Richard Facey on 45:47, assisted by Mason Wild.
The mist was still lurking around Steve Gossett as the night went on and he grabbed Jack Lee on 47:23 which led to the pair pulling at each other’s jerseys, getting a few punches in each before hitting the ground and getting 2+2 in penalty minutes each.
The game filtered out with a few half chances near the end but a spirited Dynamos team had to make do with a draw in a rink where they have at times struggled to come away with even a point.
Invicta’s man of the match went to the hard skating Joshua Condren whilst Richard Facey picked-up the beers for the hosting Devils.
Chico Cole faced 53 Dynamo shots with a save percentage of 96.23% and Damien King faced 37 shots from the Solent Devils giving him a save percentage of 94.59%.
