Faversham Town went top of the SCEFL Premier Division with a come from behind draw at the GI Landscapes stadium against a Snodland Town side who cemented their own Play Off place.
And in all seriousness a point was the very least the home side deserved after a display that showed just how far they have come in a very short period of time.
But for Stefan Paynes penalty just past the hour (his eighteeth goal of the season), Faversham would have returned to Swale not top and with nothing.
After George Monger deservedly put the home side ahead, Snodland were the side creating the better chances and but for a couple of terrific saves from visiting keeper Lewis Briggs, the points would have been the home sides.
The home side were in front inside the opening ten minutes when Monger nipped in to take full advantage of hesitation between keeper and defenders to head home a free kick that was allowed to bounce through the box.
Payne had a chance to quickly level but a shot on the turn thudded into the chest of keeper Adam Molloy whilst somehow Briggs kept out a downward header from Matt Gething at the second or third attempt from a corner.
Monger skied a great back post chance to double the lead before on the stroker of half time, Briggs pulled off the save of the night to keep our Gethings thunderous header for a brilliant left wing cross.
Briggs pulled off another fine stop early in the second period to keep out a low skidding effort before on the hour, Faversham levelled completely against the run of play.
Ashley Miller sprinted away down the right onto Paynes pass and was fouled in the box, and Payne duly despatched the spot kick to Molloy’s right as the keeper dived left!
Connor Essam saw a header go wide with the keeper scrambling before Faversham’s frustrating night was compounded by the sending off of Sam Hasler for a second yellow card after his side had been awarded a free kick for a bad foul.
Snodland sub-Isaac Thompson missed two late chances to win the game – the first as he snatched at Henry Muggeridge’s free-kick and then driving inches too high as another free-kick dropped to him on the edge of the box.
Faversham’s point takes them above Glebe at the top albeit just on goal difference, whilst Snodland jump above Corinthian in the incredibly tight Play Off race as just five points separate fourth places Whitstable Town to Bearsted in eleventh!
