David Smith made it a successful day at Brands Hatch in the Truck Racing on a beautifully sunny day at the Kent Circuit.
Local boy Smith qualified in ninth place overall, but at the head of the field for Division Two field for the opening race.
With the slower trucks now getting a head start at the start of the race, Smith managed to stay in front and was only passed by the quicker truck of Matt Summerfield from Division One.
Smith was actually leading into the penultimate lap but caught in traffic and Summerfield in the quicker truck pounced. Therefore Smith finished in second place overall and top of the Division Two Trucks.
In race two it was more of the same from Smith as he led from the Division Two trucks home, but he had to do it the hard way as the Division Two trucks couldn’t get out of each other’s way.
He had to pass Oscar Clark and Jim Bennett to get into the lead, however he couldn’t hold onto the overall lead with the quicker Division One class trucks closing him down.
With Smith and Oliver battling it out, winner of race one Summerfield was ready to pounce and take the overall lead. That is exactly what happened and before the end David Jenkins and Steve Thomas in their Division One trucks did the same.
Smith was to finish in fourth place and lead the Division Two class home once again for the second time at his home race weekend.
Tomorrow will see three races at Brands Hatch with the action getting underway from 12:45 and it already promises to be just as exciting as today.
