Local Truck Racing driver David Smith had another great day in the sunshine at Brands Hatch this afternoon.Dave Smith gets ready to defend his championship at Brands Hatch

In race three he took the overall race win as well as winning the Division Two race, making it a great start to the day, following on from an excellent Saturday.

He led home the field more than nine seconds ahead of Mat Summerfield who had been the man to lead the field home in the two races on Saturday.

Smith took the lead from fellow local driver Graham Powell on lap seven and he stayed in the lead from then on, despite the challenge of Summerfield and the Division One field.

Speaking after the race, Smith said: “”The first few laps were pretty hard, so I just had to get away again. We had a bit of a poor start but I couldn’t be any happier. Everything’s going fine, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

In race two of the day however Smith couldn’t be as dominant as he was in the opening races of the weekend.

It was to be fellow Kent driver Powell that would profit from this brining his ERF truck home fourth overall, as Summerfield made it a hat-trick of wins from the weekend.

There was a close fight between Powell and his brother Steven for fourth place but it was Graham who was to win the battle of the siblings.

In the final race of the weekend Smith was back on the top step of the podium taking his second overall win of the weekend, making it a fantastic weekend at his home track.

Once again he was able to hold off the onslaught of Summerfield who had to settle for second behind Smith for the second time.

Smith took the lead on lap four and continued to lead the next twelve laps from there as Summerfield was held up behind some slower Division Two drivers, eventually getting past but he couldn’t quite catch smith as the race ticked away.

Giving his reaction to the weekend, after race five East Malling’s Smith, said: “”Brilliant weekend, couldn’t have asked for anything more. I’m on form, and quicker than last year, so it’s brilliant!”
