Following a very poor performance on Saturday, Welling United are on their travels for a midweek game Slough Town.
Having lost their first three league games of the season, the Rebels are on a tremendous run and their defeat at Oxford City was their first in the league since then.
Their home form is particularly good as only St Albans City have come away from Arbour Park with a point since their opening two games of the season.
However they showed that they are fallible when losing three-two at home to Chippenham Town in an F.A. Cup replay after drawing two all in the first game in Wiltshire.
On Saturday, Welling were very disappointing against St Albans and didn’t trouble goalkeeper Dean Snedker once in the ninety minutes played.
The Saints were little better and only had two real efforts on target, one of which Dan Wilks made a good save and the other from which they scored the only goal of the game.
After the game, Wings manager Mark Goldberg kept his team in the changing room for over half an hour to hold an inquest. When he emerged from the chat he said “I made changes at half time and I’ll make at least one or two on Tuesday.”
One change will be enforced as Bradley Goldberg limped off on Saturday after twenty minutes having suffered a groin strain. It may mean that Welling have to change their formation and shuffle their pack.
When the two teams met in last season’s corresponding fixture, back in April, Slough got the better of the Wings in a one-nil win. Billy Clifford scored the only goal with a shot that took a slight deflection to take it over Wilks. Jack Turner then made a couple of saves to ensure that the hosts claimed all three points.
The one thing that the Welling management team will know is that the Vanarama National League South is such an open division that anyone can beat anyone and if the players play to their full potential they are more than capable of getting something out of the game.
