On Saturday Welling United complete their trilogy of consecutive league away games when they travel to Slough Town in a Vanarama National League South fixture.
Last Saturday, they were defeated three-nil at Oxford City following a one-all draw at Cheshunt. In the first of them they looked like they would be leaving with three pints until conceding a late equaliser.
Then, at Oxford, they were shading the game until they went behind.
There was an exhibition match on Monday against Soccer Universities which allowed manager Warren Feeney to give squad players some minutes in their legs, alongside trailists. That will be helpful as every member of the squad may be required with three games in eight days.
James Dunne and Stefan Payne will miss the first two matches through suspension and Welling also have injuries in the squad. Kyrell Lisbie took advantage of his opportunity by notching a hat-trick against the young Americans and Cameron Andrews also got his name on the scorersheet.
At present, Slough are two places and four points behind the Wings having played one game more.
Both teams had their unbeaten runs ended on Saturday. Welling were on three undefeated, however, the Rebels had gone seven matches without a loss, stretching back to early December.
Their run was ended at Chelmsford City who scored two unanswered second half goals.
When the two teams met at Park View Road back in November, they played out an uninspiring nil-nil draw. However, there was more goalmouth action when Welling travelled to Arbour Park last season when the Rebels won by the odd goal in three.
Just shy of the half hour mark, Dipo Akinyemi was brought down in the penalty area by goalkeeper Jonathan North and his spot kick gave North no chance.
That lead lasted for just three minutes. Imran Kayani went on an unopposed run across the penalty area before slotting inside the far post.
Still before half time, Slough scored the winner, and it was another penalty scored by the person fouled. Aaron Kuhl whent over Maxwell Staham’s leg before smashing his penalty home.
Both teams will be keen to win to move up the league table so there is plenty at stake.
