Dartford fell to their first defeat in six games after a disappointing display at promotion chasing Slough Town.
Slough scored the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute thanks to Dan Roberts pouncing on a rebound after a shot from distance was parried by Dartford goalkeeper Alhaji Sesay, who injured himself making the initial save.
A late red card for Sanchez Ming then made Dartford’s task a lot more difficult and Slough were able to see out the game.
Steve King was able to name an unchanged side as he kept faith with the XI that comfortably beat Oxford City last week.
Dartford started the game well and Darren Mcqueen had an early opportunity that he failed to get on target.
Good play by Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong and Ming saw the former get in behind and cut back for Nick Arnold but the defender had his shot blocked.
The home side then took control of the game and Matt Lench stung the palms of Sesay with a shot from distance.
Slough then took the lead 12 minutes before half time, another shot from distance saw Sesay get down well to parry the effort but he injured his shoulder in doing so. His parry was seized upon by Roberts who was able to slot into the empty net.
Slough came close to doubling their lead three minutes later as Worsfold cut inside and had a shot that whistled just past the post.
In the second half Dartford had their best chance of the game as Luke Wanadio got in behind the defence but was only able to shoot inches wide of the post from a tight angle.
Dartford made a double substitution with around 20 minutes to go as manager King tried to change the outcome of the game, bringing on Liam Nash and Ky Marsh-Brown for McQueen and Wanadio. However it wasn’t to be as they failed to create another meaningful chance.
All hope for Dartford was extinguished when Ming was sent off with five minutes remaining for appearing to push the assistant referee after a decision went against him. Given the severity of the incident it seems likely that he will now face a lengthy ban.
In truth it wasn’t Dartford’s day as they were not at their best and never really got going. It was a quiet day for the recently lethal front three as they were unable to test Jack Turner in the Slough Town goal.
A very solid defensive performance from Slough Town kept Dartford at bay on what was ultimately a frustrating afternoon for Steve King’s men.
The result keeps Dartford in 7th place, whilst Slough move up a place to 3rd.
Next week Dartford host Dulwich Hamlet in the league but before that they travel the short distance to Maidstone United in the Kent Senior Cup 2nd round.
