Goals from Juraj Huska and Brandon Webster saw the Invicta Dynamos secure a 2-2 draw in the 1st leg of the NIHL Southern Cup Semifinal on the road against the Slough Jets on Saturday.
The Mos were limited to 14 players with injuries and illness shortening the reserves and Matt Foord, Tommy Ralph, Mason Webster, Taylor Chard, Richard Harris and Joshua Condren missing out.
In the first period the Jets broke the deadlock with the only goal of the opening frame – Daniel Bradley linking up with Jacob Soper before Wiliam Dobbe fired beyond Ben Clements to make it 1-0 at 12.53. The hosts dominated the first period with 24 shots on net whilst the Mos tested Brett Shepherd just 8 times.
The second frame was more even but it was still Slough who were next on the board as they took advantage of a slashing penalty on Billy Phillips – Luke Smital finding Daniel Rose who teed up Adam Rosbottom for the 2-0 edge at 27.49. The Mos rallied and replied shortly before the break – at 38.59 Brandon Webster grabbed an assist as Juraj Huska beat Brett Shepherd to return the deficit to one.
In the final frame the Dynamos levelled the tie at 46.35 – Ashley Jackson setting up Brandon Webster who made it 2-2. Neither team were then able to find a winner despite the Mos outshooting their hosts 18-12 in the last period. In the dying moments Billy Phillips secured a penalty for fighting.
So it was honours even after the first game setting up an exciting and deciding finale in Gillingham on Sunday.
