Sittingbourne 4-2 Enfield Town
Sittingbourne 4-2 Enfield Town

On an historic afternoon at the Staxson Stadium as Sittingbourne secured their place in Round Four of the FA Trophy for the very first in their history.

For the second week running, the Staxson witnessed an explosive start as Henry Sinai volleyed home a Troy Howard cross. Instantly, Enfield responded and Jake Hutchinson and then Sam Youngs headed the visitors in front.

The response from the Brickies was instant and decisive. Joe Boachie drilled home another Howard centre before a fabulous over-head kick gave the Brickies a lead that was extended on the stroke of half time when a Chris Arthur header hit a post and went in off the unlucky Alfie Tuck.

The second period was blown away in the wind but the final whistle was greeted with joy from the home faithful as history was made.

After the flying start the week before with three goals in the opening four minutes, the Brickies were in front early again when the late arriving Sinai caught Howard’s pass in his stride and thumped the ball into the top corner of the Enfield net.

The game rapidly became an amazing Cup tie as Enfield roared back into the game with the Brickies defence under pressure that they probably haven’t faced this season. Showing why they are a National League South side; the visitors were level soon after as a terrific cross from Lennon Peake was met by Jake Hutchinson and the striker’s header powered past Harley Earle.

Minutes later and Earle showed his full agility making an incredible point blank save to deny Hutchinson a second, but shortly afterwards Enfield were ahead – another fine ball into the box was met by a brilliant angled header from Sam Youngs which gave the Brickies keeper no chance.

The Brickies found themselves somewhere they haven’t been much this season but the response was outstanding…

Howard streaked away down the right onto a great ball from Ryan Kingsford, and Howard’s ball across the box was crashed home by Boachie and with the home fans jubilant, the Brickies had real momentum, and soon they were back in front!

A long free kick into the box was half cleared and as Richie Hamill cushioned a ball back into the box, for the second weekend on the bounce, Boachie produced a fantastic and amazing overhead kick that flew into the Enfield net.

The home side knew that another before the break was crucial and it came in slightly bizarre circumstances. A deep Hamill corner was met by Arthur and his header thumped off a combination of the post and Enfield’s Alfie Tuck on its way into the net.

Arthurs’ first goal for the Club or an own goal? No one in red and black cared as the Brickies ended an extraordinary first half with a two-goal lead…

The second half was almost like going through the motions for both sides as Enfield really didn’t have any chances of note as Arthur, Jack Steventon and co shut up shop!

At the other end, there were a couple of chances for the home side, but perhaps the biggest news for the Brickies was the return of top scorer Mitch May after suspension.
