Sittingbourne 3-0 Herne Bay
Sittingbourne 3-0 Herne Bay

Sittingbourne made it two wins from two with a second half performance that literally blew Herne Bay away.

Whilst Nick Davis, side have six points from six and the perfect start, the Bay are pointless at the bottom end of the fledgling Bostik South table.

After an absorbing first half where chances came at both end, the home side went in front ten minutes into the second half when Kane Rowland side footed into the net.  The lead was doubled when substitute David Smith bulleted home a great header and Mobolanji Dawodu then completed the rout late on.

For the Bay’s management team of Jon Embery and Jermaine Darlington it was the return to Sittingbourne that they must have dreaded.  Yet in the opening 45 minutes, there was nothing to separate the sides.

Gil Carvalho brought a good low save out of Bay keeper Ben Hunter, before former Bourne favourite Jono Richardson blazed over when a corner wasn’t cleared.  The chances kept coming at both ends – Cornwell’s header was denied by another terrific save from Hunter, whilst at the other end Kingsley Aikhonbare saw his header drift wide when well placed.

The Bay then had the best chance of the opening half when Jack Steventon’s drive was magnificently saved by home keeper Darren Hawkes.

After the break, the home side upped the tempo and seemed to find more room especially down the flanks and it took just seven minutes for the home side to lead as Cornwell coolly slotted home after a great run down the line from Kane Phillip.

The lead was doubled in the final quarter when Smith scored with a thunderous header from another great ball into the Bay box – this time from Chris Webber, and the victory was sealed late on when Dawodu rammed home Jidi Okimeji’s centre.

All in all, a great night’s work for the home side, but for the visitors a start of nightmares for the new bosses – at least we’re still “only” in August!
