An injury time strike from Max Ehmer saw the Gills head back to Kent with all three points as they came from behind to win at Greenhous Meadow on Saturday afternoon.Shrewsbury

A double from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, one of which is an early contender for goal of the season, saw the Gills overturn a two goal deficit and move up to sixth in the table on ten points.

The hosts got off to the best possible start when they took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to an excellent strike from Louis Dodds who left debutant keeper Jonathan Bond with no chance, placing an effort into the top right hand corner from 25-yards out.

Before that though the Gills had created a number of half chances, which included Emmanuel-Thomas involved, with the big striker using his lightening like pace to cause problems in the Shrews defence.

The home side increased their lead with half an hour gone, Junior Brown carved his way down the wing before cutting inside and teeing up Dodds at the back post and he calmly slotted home past Bond, who was flat on his back with Josh Pask having blocked Dodd’s first effort.

Bond was called into action to produce a fine save on the 37th minute, as he clawed an Ivan Toney header around his near post and away for a corner, to show just why Justin Edinburgh has brought him into the team to provide competition for Stuart Nelson.

Having clashed heads with Ian Davis earlier in the half Pask was replaced by Bradley Dack with a back injury shortly before half time. Once again though Bond was called into action to prevent Dodds from netting his hat trick before the half time break.

Just before the half time whistle, the Gills created arguably their best chance of the game, when Billy Knott worked his way through the Shrews defence and into the box, before cutting the ball back to captain Josh Wright, only for him to send his shot high over the bar and into the stand behind the goal.

Half time 2-0

The Gills were back in the game just before the hour mark, when the impressive and dangerous Emmanuel-Thomas rose highest to meet a Dack cross and glance the ball home at the back post.

Fifteen minutes later and the Gills were back and the home side were shell shocked, as JET netted his second goal of the game, and his fifth since joining the Gills on loan from Queens Park Rangers this summer.

He picked the ball up and drove forward before unleashing a shot from fully 30 yards out that sailed past the despairing dive of Leutwiler and into the top corner, to send the Gills fans behind the goal wild, as they celebrated his early goal of the season contender.

From then on though the Gills were determined not to leave Shrewsbury without all three points, and they could have had a penalty just before the end of normal time, when a JET knocked down, Deji Oshalija was then clattered into by Leutwiler but the referee waved away the Gills protests.

Bond was in action at the other end of the pitch in the 92nd minute when he was left one on one with Leitch-Smith, but he got down low and saved well to keep the Gills in the game. One minute later the Gills scored the winning goal when a Dack corner was knocked down by JET, it was picked up by Ehmer and he drove the ball low into the bottom corner.
