Kent County Cricket Club have announced that seam bowler Charlie Shreck will be joining the squad from next season.

Nottinghamshire have agreed to release Shreck from the final year of his contract to allow him to sign for Kent on a two year contract.

Shreck will make his final appearance for Nottinghamshire in the final game of the season against Sussex at Trent Bridge next week, having taken 290 wickets in 82 first class matches for Notts.

He made his Nottinghamshire debut in 2003 after trialling at several counties and having impressed for Cornwall in minor counties matches.

“Charlie has foregone a benefit year to make this move, and that shows his desire to play regular first team cricket which we couldn’t guarantee given the depth we have in our squad,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the contribution that he has made here and there is no doubt that he will make a difference at his new club.”

Shreck has already played for Kent this season, having joined the squad early in the season as a loan signing for their LV=CC match against Essex at Chelmsford.

Kent Cricket, Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace commented on the signing; “Charlie will be a welcome addition to our bowling unit. He is an experienced and knowledgeable bowler who will bring a lot for our young bowlers and we look forward to welcoming him back to the squad.”

Shreck will bolster a bowling attack that has been plagued by injuries in the past couple of seasons with Kent also believed to be interested in signing loan signing David Balcombe from Hampshire.
