Sheppey United continued their fine form with an emphatic FA Vase victory over Combined Counties side Molesey.
The game was a bit one sided as the scoreline suggests as Molesey most of the game chased shadows.
The game started brightly for Molesey as in the 3rd minute Jack Martin’s corner found Jordan Hector-Smith but his header at the back post went over the bar & from then on they would have a few half chances while Sheppey would go on & dominate.
A minute later & Sheppey had their first of many chances when Danny Leonard on the right wing crossed to the back post where Tim Ogunrinde was but his header went over the bar.
Sheppey continued to press & in the 19th minute they scored when Leonard on the right went into the area & was fouled & a penalty was given, up stepped Jack Midson & he hit it into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
In the 27th minute it could have been two when Midson put Junior Aikhionbare in on goal but his shot from an angle went across the goal & out for a goal kick, a minute later & it was two when Ogunrinde on the left got to the by-line & found Midson 8 yards out & the experienced forward side footed in.
In the very next minute in a rare attack Hector Smith running forward from halfway tried his luck from 18 yards but it was saved by Tom Taylor.
In the 32nd minute it nearly became three when Leonard passed to Ogunrinde & his curling effort was pushed over the bar by Andrew Westphal.
Another chance came in the 37th minute when Aikhionbare battling with the last defender got away & from 20 yards his shot went over the bar. In the 39th minute a ball into the 6 yard box was punched clear by Westphal but only to Danny Devine & his first time shot was tipped around the post by Westphal.
In the very next minute it was three when from the corner into the area was flicked on & Richard Hamill reacted quickly & headed back into the 6 yard area where Devine 3 yards out headed in. In the first minute of added on time it could & maybe should have been four when Midson latched onto a bad pass & instantly pushed the ball into the path of Leonard but Westphal quickly came off his line & blocked the shot.
The half time whistle went & the body language of the Molesey players showed that they were defeated, now it was how many could Sheppey get.
The second half was like the first with Sheppey in total control & in the 47th minute Sami Meziane passed forward to Aikhionbare in the area & his shot was blocked by Westphal’s legs.
Three minutes later & it was four when Ogunrinde on the left wing crossed low & Warren Mfula bundled it in like a good forward should do. Sheppey continued to enjoy loads of the ball & then in the 62nd minute a penalty was given for a foul on Aikhionbare, up stepped Mfula but his shot went past the post.
Twelve minutes later & it was five when Aikhionbare in the area twisted & turned before shooting home from 8 yards.
Four minutes later & Aikhionbare should have got another one when in the area his shot was blocked by Westphal. What must have impressed Sheppey’s manager Ernie Batten was the fact that his team kept going to the final whistle.
This showed when they got their sixth in the 90th minute when Dan Birch running forward got to the by-line & his low cross to the back post was bundled in by Mfula.
The final whistle went & the road to Wembley continues on two fronts as on Tuesday they visit Eastbourne Borough.
