Tuesday’s results were not what the Addicks would have wanted, but their destiny is still very much in their own hands.
Two tough games in Yorkshire in three days will test their mettle, but Lee Bowyer is a master at getting the most out of his team.
Huddersfield beat Bristol City at the John Smith’s on Tuesday, and will have a massive advantage over Charlton in terms of rest and recovery time.
But the Addicks will be staying in Yorkshire after the Sheffield Wednesday game, so will largely negate the Terriers’ advantage.
Bowyer must decide whether to play four or five at the back at Hillsborough, and who to rest.
Deji Oshilaja failed to impress in the holding midfield role against Luton, and is likely to give way to the ubiquitous George Lapslie. Erhun Oztumer is also likely to be given a breather.
The Addicks may look like this:
Phillips; Smith, Lockyer, Pearce, Sarr, Purrington; Cullen, Lapslie, Davis, Green: Taylor.
Subs: Amos, Oshilaja, Doughty, Oztumer, McGeady, Hemed, Bonne.
Bowyer will be hopeful of taking something from the game.
