Charlton slumped to another heavy defeat at Hillsborough on Saturday.

After a turgid first half, Wednesday struck three times in the second period to leave‎ the Addicks stranded six points adrift of safety.

Jose Riga was without Jordan Cousins,‎ but welcomed back Johnnie Jackson, Igor Vetokele and Simon Makienok to the bench.

The head coach replaced Cousins with El-Hadji Ba, and brought Reza Ghoochannejhad in to partner Callum Harriott up front, with Ademola Lookman dropping to the bench.

The game was a cagey affair in the first half, with neither side showing the guile to make a breakthrough.

Carlos Carvalhal made two substitutions at the break which were to have a profound effect on the game.

‎Giant striker, Atdhe Nuhiu came on for Aiden McGeady, and. Alex Lopez replaced Sam Hutchinson.

Two goals midway through the second period effectively ended the game for Riga’s side.

Jorge Teixeira blocked a shot at the expense of a corner. The flag-kick went beyond the far post, and was met by a thunderous Tom Lees header to give Wednesday the lead.

Five minutes later, Nuhiu hit the post but Fernando Forestieri‎ was on hand to convert the rebound.

Lopez wrapped the game up thirteen minutes from time with a long range effort that fizzed past Pope’s right hand.

With just eight games left, Charlton look to be facing a near impossible task to survive.
