Sheffield United look certain to end their six year exile in League One. They currently top the the table, and have won five and drawn three of their last eight games.
After a slow start local boy, Chris Wilder, has turned the Blades’ fortunes around. Wilder came desperately close to taking charge at The Valley in the summer.
After an outstanding season at Northampton, he was identified as the man to lead the Addicks back to the Championship.
Karl Robinson will have a few more options for this game, but will be without Lewis Page, who picked up a serious looking hamstring injury against Bradford City on Tuesday.
Nathan Byrne could return at right-back, so Adam Chicksen could revert to the left, or Jay Dasilva could be given his first start.
Dasilva impressed when he replaced Page in midweek, but Robinson will have to decide whether his lack of height could be exploited.
Ezri Konsa is likely to start, and his versatility could be deployed in a number of positions. Jake Forster-Caskey is another who could return to the starting line-up.
Charlton could look something like this:
Rudd; Konsa, Bauer, Teixeira, Chicksen; Holmes, Crofts, Ulvestad, Forster-Caskey; Novak, Watt.
Subs: Phillips, Byrne, Dasilva, Jackson, Botaka, Ahearne-Grant, Hanlan.
Scott Duncan from Northumberland will be the man in charge.
Sheffield United will ne strong favourites to win the game, but the Addicks have yet to lose a game to a top five side this season.
Robinson will fancy his chances of upsetting the odds and taking an unlikely point from Bramall Lane.
Charlton’s game with Milton Keynes Dons, scheduled to be played at The Valley on Saturday 25 March, will be postponed.
Regular internationals, Josh Magennis and Jordan Botaka, will be joined by Jay Dasilva and Ezri Kosa.
Chelsea loanee, Dasilva, has been called up for the England Under-19 squad, and Konsa will be in the Three Lions’ Under-20 squad.
The game will have to be rescheduled, and Tuesday 28 March would seem to be an ideal date. But with the announcement that the Kent Senior Cup semi-final with Welling will be staged on that date, the Milton Keynes Dons fixture may be played in early April.
