In January Charlton inflicted the first home defeat of the season on the Owls and when they beat Sheffield United at The Valley a week later, many believed the Addicks had imposed an unbreakable psychological stranglehold on the division. Subsequent events were to prove the theory correct.
A somewhat different scenario this season; Wednesday’s win at South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley last week, ended a losing streak of seven. The Owls have lost their last four at Hillsborough to Blackpool, Leicester, Watford and Bristol City, conceding eleven goals in the process.
Under fire boss, Dave Jones, has recruited Stuart Gray to assist him and he will be hoping to notch up a home win tomorrow.
The Addicks have failed to score in their last two away games, with Chris Powell reverting to a conservative 4-2-3-1 starting line-up. Powell will be without the suspended Dale Stephens and may be pondering whether to continue with Danny Haynes on the left and Yann Kermorgant as the lone striker. Kermorgant is better suited to being the target man in a duo. Rob Hulse would be a better option if Powell opts to continue with just one striker, but the manager is a big fan of Kermorgant. Ricardo Fuller should be fit enough for bench duties.
Bradley Pritchard will come into contention to replace Stephens and it would be interesting to see Salim Kerkar given a run out in his preferred central midfield berth. Powell’s naturally cautious nature may sway him towards playing Dorian Dervite in a holding midfield role with Leon Cort returning to partner Michael Morrison at the back.
Charlton could look like this:
Hamer; Solly, Cort, Morrison, Seaborne; Dervite, Frimpong; Wilson, Jackson, Haynes; Kermorgant.
Subs: Sullivan, Taylor, Pritchard, Kerkar, Hulse, Fuller, Wright-Phillips.
The referee will be Gary Sutton from Lincolnshire.
This is a game that Charlton are more than capable of winning. If the manager adopts a more positive approach than of late, his team could repeat their January triumph at Hillsborough.
