Kent’s Bryony Shaw has missed out on a medal in the women’s RS:X event having finished fifth in the final race this afternoon.
Shaw faced an uphill battle to put herself in contention for a top-three spot, going into the medal race in seventh place.
Her fifth place finish was not enough to change her overall standings as she finished three points behind Israel’s Lee-el Korsiz and 12 points behind the medal positions.
“It’s not to be a medal this time. I’m gutted, but it’s been a great journey.” said the Tunbridge Wells 29 year old after the race.
Spain’s Marina Alabau Neira cruised to gold, finishing 20 points ahead of Finland’s Tuuli Petaja. Zofia Noceti-Klepacka of Poland picked up the bronze medal.
