Shane Shakey Byrne took an amazing victory in race one of the showdown and followed that up with second place in race two at Silverstone on Sunday.
The ‘Home of British Motorsport’ certainly lived up to its name tag serving up arguably the best two races of the season to date.
Throughout race one Ryuichi Kiyonari and Byrne swapped places so many times throughout the race that you just didn’t know which way the result would go.
All the time Shakey and Kiyo were scrapping it out for the lead, Josh Brookes was sat on their tale waiting for any mistake that the two riders might make.
Still on the last lap no one knew where the race would go, it was Byrne who was to take it and make it two wins in a row. With the fastest lap of the race it meant that Byrne started race two of the weekend on pole position.
The second race was just as dramatic as the first one for the title protagonists and it had the fans at home and at the track on the edge of their seats from the off.
Josh Brookes was the fastest man on the circuit in the early stages but was still behind Kiyo and Byrne. However, his race ended early when he came off the bike.
Byrne then became like a bird stalking his pray as he followed Kiyo every corner right on his shoulder, as the battle to be the first rider in the BSB to win four titles really ramped up.
Again it came down to the last lap and again it could have gone either way but it was the Sittingbourne Man that had to settle for second place.
Reflecting on another good weekend, Byrne said: “The first race was so much fun but it was hard work battling with Kiyo and Josh and exactly what we needed after Assen. Kiyo’s been incredibly strong this weekend and with Josh in the mix too, there was a lot of overtaking going on.
“I had a slight moment on the final lap, and then Kiyo had one too, but I braked slightly later at the end of the straight and held on for the win. The second race was equally good fun and to get first and second in races like that is no bad thing.
“We were both on the limit and I had a plan but the race was quicker than the first one and the margins of reserve not as great so when I had a little slide on the last lap, I just couldn’t quite make the move I wanted. Fair play to Kiyo, he held on for the win and we now go to the final round at Brands Hatch where I’m sure there’ll be more of the same.”
It means that the title showdown will go right to the final round of the season and the triple header at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.
