After just over a month’s break the MCE British Superbike Championship is back and the action is promising to be even better.
Kent’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is leading the championship after a near perfect start to the season with three wins and a second place from the four races so far this season.
Whilst there may have been a break on the track there certainly hasn’t been one off it with all of the teams working hard behind the scenes.
Paul Bird Motorsport are no exception and they have been ensuring that Shakey and his team mate Stuart Easton have the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki ready to continue their good form.
Speaking ahead of the racing at Snetterton this weekend, he said: “The start of the season has been nearly perfect; I wasn’t too upset to lose out to Yamaha in the second race knowing the good results they have had there in the past.
“We have had a great couple of rounds to start the season and it has been nice to have some ‘time off’ but at the same time I have used it to train even harder and I am possibly even fitter now than I was at the start of the season. Yes we have had two great rounds, but as a team we certainly haven’t been resting on our laurels since Oulton Park.
“We had the pre-season test at Snetterton which was really good and I know some of our rivals have been out on track there recently, but I am sure we can get straight up to speed. I am coming back physically strong, the team have worked hard to give me an even better bike, and I know we will be ready to get back out and push for the results.”
Shakey’s main rival is once again likely to be Josh Brookes who took victory in race two at Oulton Park and is sure to be strong at Snetterton this weekend.
As usual qualifying will take place on Saturday afternoon and the races will be on Sunday, with it all broadcast on Eurosport. Can Shakey make it another double win as the racing resumes after the break?
