Cadwell Park didn’t prove to be a happy hunting ground for Sheppey’s Shane Byrne over the Bank Holiday weekend.Shane Byrne23

He had to settle with second place on the grid in qualifying as Alex Lowes took pole with a blistering lap.

In race one Shakey made his customary quick start but couldn’t get past Alex Lowes as the Samsung Honda rider was determined to win at his team’s home track.

With Shakey already qualified for the showdown at the end of the season at Brands Hatch it was about securing good points and he settled for second place.

Speaking after race one, Shakey said: “I thought I had a cunning game plan for race one but clearly not cunning enough! Alex rode great; the first part of the race is so different when you are leading to when you are following so for me to sit behind him at that pace was so comfortable and I thought it was great.

“I thought I would get to four laps to go and have my bit at the front, but he upped the pace too. My bike behaved differently when we upped the pace. We only have podium credits here to gain now we are in the Showdown and whilst we want to win I am also conscious that I have a bit of a lead in that table. At the same time I don’t want to lose that but I don’t want to throw it all away either and score none. Two was better than one or none so I am happy!”

Alex Lowes managed to keep pole position in race two as Shakey dropped down into fourth place for the start of race two.

As everyone knows Cadwell Park is a tough and tight track and it is hard to pass other riders hence why a front row start is key.

Shakey fought hard and did his best but just couldn’t find a way past James Ellison and Tommy Bridewell in front of him as the 18 lap race came to its conclusion.

He did benefit however from a mistake from Josh Brookes who crashed out as he took the lead of the race from Alex Lowes, it meant that Shakey finished in fourth place and just outside of the rostrum places for the first time this season when he has finished a race.

Alex Lowes made it a great day for him by winning both the races at his team’s home track and he goes into the next round at Donington full of confidence.

Shane goes into the next round at Donington Park over the weekend of the 7th and 8th September with a 37 point lead over Lowes.
