Dover Athletic’s Shadrach Ogie was delighted with his goal as Whites won their first game of 2020 with a 2-0 victory against Aldershot Town.
After Kevin Lokko put the home side ahead in the first half, Ogie doubled Dover’s lead early in the second, running down the left hand side from inside his own half to slot past the goalkeeper.
Its been a great introduction for the Leyton Orient loanee, who was making his home debut after playing against Notts County away from home last weekend.
“I think I done really well today, the team is pleased with my performance and obviously I got the goal which rounded off a good performance,” he said.
“It was a good team performance. The first half was played at a steady pace, but as the game went on, we settled as a team and I’m pleased with my goal.”
Ogie’s self-made goal helped settle nerves around the ground as Aldershot struggled to get back into the game once the second goal went in.
“I didn’t think it was going in to be fair. I picked it up in my half and I just thought about running forward, so I travelled towards the box and I was actually going to square it to Inih (Effiong) but then I thought I might as well take it on myself.
“I gave the defender the eye by pretending I was going to square it and he tried to read me by getting in the position to stop the pass, but unlucky for him I got past him and then I just had to put the ball in the net.”
The loan signing was confirmed a day before Whites’ trip up to Notts County and has since played in both games he was available for, keeping clean sheets in both games.
“Last week was my first real 90 minutes and then I got another 90 minutes in front of these great fans today. My time here so far has been really encouraging and it’s motivating me to do even better.
“I’m a new lad here and I’m also one of the youngest in the team so to play two full games is helping me learn to use my strengths to the best of my ability.”
Dover travel to FC Halifax Town on Tuesday night and Ogie is looking forward to spending more time with his teammates as he continues to get bedded into the squad.
He said: “I’m looking forward to the trip. It’s good to spend some time with the boys as I continue to get to know them all even more and hopefully it can end with another three points on the road.
