Sevenoaks Town 7-1 Welling United
Sevenoaks Town 7-1 Welling United

It was seven goals Town as Sevenoaks overwhelmed Welling United in the Kent Senior Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago international, and former Wing, Daniel Carr helped himself to a hat-trick as the hosts looked dangerous every time they attacked.

There was no sign of what was to come when Enoch Muwonge had an early shot saved by Sevenoaks goalkeeper Daniel Colmer.

However, that was as good as things got for the Wings as Sevenoaks went ahead in the fifteenth minute. Kieron Cadogan nicked it away from Nico Jones before pulling it back for Carr, and he tucked it away confidently.

Four minutes later, Carr struck again in almost identical fashion as Jerald Aboagye got to the bye-line before pulling back for the Sevenoaks striker to slot home.

Tyrese Osbourne came close to making it three but his shot hit a prone Donald Macauley and rebounded to safety, however Sevenoaks did add a third a minute before half time. Fumnaya Shomotun twisted and turned Will Wood inside out to make the space to fire across goal and inside the far post.

After the break, Cadogan tried an impudent chip but Javarn Pitterson, in the Welling goal wasn’t fooled and claimed it easily before Welling pulled one back. Antony Papadopoulos threaded a pass through to Abdullah Javid. His shot was beaten out by Colmer into the path of Ibra Sekajja. Although the youngster scuffed his shot, it still found its way inside the far post.

Cadogan tried his luck again and Pitterson recovered quickly to save at the second attempt but he was powerless to stop the hosts from adding two in two minutes. Jaiden Drake-Thomas forced his way through before shooting home then Osbourne squeezed in a fifth from a tight angle.

Papadopoulos tried a chip that was saved at the near post before Cadogan finally got the goal that he had been seeking when firing home from the edge of the area after Mannie Mensah pulled it back. Carr completed his hat-trick when scoring Sevenoaks’ fourth goal in a nine minute spell.

Pitterson saved from Osbourne as Welling saw out the last twenty minutes without conceding further but it was still an evening that the Sevenoaks supporters won’t forget in a hurry.
